Your child, my priority.

Creating a curriculum for a home-based nursery (often called a childminding setting in the UK) allows for a unique, "home-from-home" experience that larger centers can’t always replicate. This outline is designed to meet the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) while prioritising the warmth, flexibility, and community-centric nature of a domestic setting.
 

The "Village" Approach
Our curriculum is built on the belief that children thrive when they feel loved, heard, and connected to the world around them.
* Love as a Foundation: A high adult-to-child ratio ensures deep emotional bonds and a secure "base" for exploration.
* Child-Led Discovery balanced with Adult-Led play: Although we do have "Topic of the Week." we do not follow a rigidly. If a child finds a snail in the garden, we become malacologists for the afternoon.
* Community Integration: The local high street, park, and library are our extended classrooms.
 

The Three Pillars of Learning
1. The Power of "In the Moment" Planning instead of pre-planned lessons, we practice In the Moment Planning. This means the "curriculum" happens when the child is most engaged.
* The Adult's Role: To observe, wait, and then "spark" the learning by adding a new resource or asking an open-ended question.
* The Environment: A carefully curated "Enabling Environment" with open-ended toys (blocks, silks, loose parts) that allow a child’s imagination to lead.
2. Radical Love & PSED
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) is our "Prime" focus.
* Family-Style Dining: Eating together to practice conversation, turn-taking, and independence (pouring their own water).
* Co-Regulation: Helping children navigate big feelings with empathy, using strategies treating each child as an individual and plenty of cuddles.
* Participation: Children help with "real-life" tasks like prepping snacks, assisting with their toileting, where appropriate, and dressing themselves fostering a sense of belonging and "I can do it" confidence.


3. Community & The Great Outdoors
We utilise our local UK geography to teach "Understanding the World."
*The Local Supermarket - Maths & Literacy: Counting apples, weighing potatoes, and reading labels. 
*The Post Box - Communication: Writing "letters" (drawings) and understanding how the world stays connected. 
*Local Cafe and Park - Empathy: Regular visits to local parks where we interact with elderly neighbors or different age groups. Learning Social and behavioural skills. 
*Muddy Lane - Physicality: Navigating puddles, balancing on logs, and sensory play with natural materials.
 

Mapping the EYFS (The "Home" Way)
Prime Areas (The Essentials)
* Communication & Language: Constant "serve and return" chatter during daily routines—narrating our walk to the park or singing songs during nappy changes.
* Physical Development: Fine motor skills through kneading playdoh; gross motor skills through "Tree Climbing 101" at the local woods.
* PSED: Building a "Key Person" bond that feels like family.
Specific Areas (The Deep Dive)
* Literacy: Snuggling up for "Reading for Pleasure"—not just phonics, but a genuine love for stories.
* Mathematics: Real-world counting. "How many shoes are by the front door? Do we have enough for everyone?"
* Understanding the World: Observing the British seasons first-hand—noticing the frost on the grass or the first crocuses in the garden.
* Expressive Arts & Design: Unstructured "Process Art" where the goal is to enjoy the squish of the paint, not to make a perfect butterfly.

Observation & Partnership with Parents
We don't use tick-boxes. We use Narrative Observations.
* Parental Input: We value the "Knowledge of the Child" that only a parent has.
* Learning Journeys: A digital or physical scrapbook of "Wow" moments, shared frequently so parents feel part of the nursery day.


Our Aim

The Goal: To send children off to "Big School" not just knowing their numbers, but knowing they are valued, capable, and loved members of their community. To be resilient and have confidence in themselves.
